A Guide to Waikiki Beaches

Feb 2 , 2012

With perfectly white sand, beautiful blue waters, and scenic views, the beaches of Waikiki, Honolulu are some of the most amazing in Hawaii. With more than enough outdoor activities, there is a good mix of activities and relaxation on the beach.

Waikiki is a popular neighborhood on the beautiful island of Honolulu. Located on the south shore of the island, the neighborhood is known for some of the most beautiful beaches, not only in the state, but in the world. While it may seem like there are more than enough beaches to choose from, some stand out more than others. Here are the best Waikiki beaches to visit when in Hawaii.

Diamond Head Beach: Located near the 350-acre diamond head crater, this beach is the perfect place for windsurfing, surfing, and sunbathing. The beach is very secluded compared to many others, so it is the perfect spot to get away from everything. The hardest part is getting to the beach because it is lined with multimillion dollar mansions and there is not much parking available.

Kahala Beach: This is the perfect place for a wedding and photo shoot. Come on the weekdays to help avoid the crowd. It has some of the best views in Waikiki and is a short five minute car ride from the heart of Waikiki. Pull up a chair and sit down at this relaxing beach getaway.

Ala Moana Beach Park: This long stretch of beach is the perfect place to stop after a morning across the street at Ala Moana Shopping Center. Many people come to relax, but some come to surf, paddle, and jog down the long stretch of beach. Be sure to arrive to the shopping area early to secure a parking spot.

Kailua Beach: As one of the best kept secrets in Waikiki, Kailua Beach offers scenic views and beautiful turquoise water. Located just over the mountains of Waikiki, the beach has marvelous white sand and is visited by many locals and travelers to kayak to the Mokulua Islands. Many also try stand up paddling and windsurfing. This is the epitome of a real tropical beach.

Outrigger Waikiki Hotel Beach: Located directly behind the hotel, this beach is centered around outdoor activities, including canoe rides, surfing lessons and much more. The sand is perfectly white and the water is blue. Relax on the beach after trying out one of the activities and be sure to sample some of the food offered at the concessions along the beach near the hotel.

After a day at the beach, find a delicious meal at the best restaurants in Waikiki.
